Lydia Sokolova (1896-1974). British born ballerina who adopted her Russian stage name upon joining Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes in 1913, having danced previously with the troupes of Mikhail Mordkin and Theodore Koslov. Danced many lead roles with the company, creating many roles in ballets by Léonide Massine. Later in life became a teacher, and had her last stage performance in 1962, performing in the Royal Ballet’s revival of Massine’s Les Femmes de bonne humeur, in which she had originated a part in 1917.
