Maria Tallchief (1925-2013). Ballerina of Native American heritage who is considered America’s First Prima Ballerina. Danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo before becoming a founding Ballerina of the New York City Ballet. Danced all around the world, being the first American to dance at the Bolshoi in Moscow. Later helped developed dance in Chicago.
